Providence GIS Solutions is excited to announce a multi-year contract with Miami-Cass REMC to implement a Geographical Information System (GIS). See the press release below:
3/12/12 Anderson, IN – Flagship Enterprise Center client, Providence GIS Solutions, signed a two year contract with Miami-Cass REMC to upgrade their utility grid with a geographic information system (GIS). This system will help Miami-Cass REMC take advantage of GIS technologies in order to more efficiently operate and maintain their electric grid system, and prepare for the smart grid of the future.
The contract is for the implementation of a Geographical Information System (GIS) with the first project being a field inventory which creates the foundation for the GIS. To follow, is an upgrade of Miami-Cass REMC’s outage management system (OMS), Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system, applications for mobile GIS for crews and customers interactions with the Miami-Cass REMC via the web and smart phone applications.
The GIS will benefit the utility by increasing efficiency in record keeping, data maintenance and reporting. The GIS will also benefit customers by shortening outage restoration times, increasing communication opportunities with the utility, and by providing more options to pay utility bills.
The project is already underway and will continue through January 2014 for the initial contract.
Jason Tuck, Founder and CEO of Providence GIS Solutions said, “Many of the local utility cooperatives and Rural Electric Membership Corporations in Indiana have systems in place to manage customer information, outages, metering, payments and more, but these systems are not interoperable with each other.” Tuck explained that Geographical Information Systems can bring these various data sources together to help utility managers operate more efficiently, which will ultimately translate into cost savings and lower utility bills for customers.
Adam Hoeksema, Client Services Manager at the Flagship Enterprise Center said, “This contract is a big step for Providence. We are excited about the growth potential for this company over the next 3 to 5 years as local utilities start to understand the positive return on investment they can secure by implementing GIS to create a ‘smarter’ grid system.”
